7 Ways to Celebrate the Spring Equinox
Hello Friends!
I just love Spring! And today just happens to be a PERFECT day for the return of spring on this Spring Equinox. The sun is shining; it is going to be a bright, sunny day with warm temperatures! We Ohioans are grinning from ear to ear in glory of this gorgeous day! If you follow my blog you know that I enjoy celebrating the turning of the seasons. For me it is a way to show my gratitude toward this incredible event and celebrate what this new season will bring. Spring is a celebration of the "new", "fresh", and "birth/fertility" of our Mother Earth. The flowers begin pushing up through the thawing ground, the trees come alive with new buds, and the animals are shaking off their winter coats and popping their heads out of their burrows. It is a wonderful time of year, everything is coming back to life after a cold, wet winter. We are ready to accept the benefits of the sunshine and soak it all in, feeling it on our skin as it fills us with warmth and glow. Get outside today, breathe in the fresh air and say thank you for this day! If you are looking for ways to celebrate the return of spring and life all around us keep scrolling...
Hello Spring
1. Plant something, turn this act into a ritual. Head outside into your yard, garden, or local park with seeds or a small plant to add to our Mother Earth. Dig a small hole, add your seeds or plant, maybe a small treasure, fill in the hole, and say a prayer over this new addition. Do this whole act with intention, with divine focus. Spring is about growth, newness, and life. Let this new addition to the Earth be a representation of that.
2. Focus on personal growth. At the beginning of March I did the daily Yoga With Adriene video, Yoga for a Fresh Start. I know it was a little early yet, however for me it was the perfect timing for this. I had just celebrated another birthday and I was ready to begin my next rotation around the sun. It was a wonderful celebration, but now it is time to focus on that personal growth. I have been very determined lately to get projects done, to make progress, and to remain focused. This is a new thing for me and I have to say that I am really enjoying it. What will you do for personal growth? If you feel like sharing leave your message in the comments below. I'd love to hear from you! <grin>
3. Spring Cleaning - physically and energetically, are both great ways to move old stagnant energy out of your home and from your life and begin fresh. I also did this a little early as well. I did a deep cleaning of my apartment, from top to bottom, from one half to the other. I use natural products in my home; my favorites are Mrs. Meyer's Rosemary, Grove Collaborative concentrated floor cleaner, and my hand knit Swifer floor mop pad. When I was finished I felt accomplished, fresh, energized, ready to start something new, and ready to celebrate my birthday. <grin> Yet also very, very exhausted! Once all of the cleaning and organizing was completed I opened my windows, turned on some fans, and did a smoke sage cleanse banishing all stagnant energy from my home while soft, gentle music played in the background.
4. Decorate your alter/prayer space/spiritual space. Winter is over, it is behind us now and it is time to change out the old with the new. The grayness of the darker days is passing and the light is beginning to shine through my windows in the mornings casting light along my face as I rise with it. And with this changing of the season it is time to change our alters.
Spring Editions for your alter:
Spring colored towel or cloth - mine is a teal and blue tie dyed yoga towel
Flowers
Bunny - represents fertility, and I recently learned that there are different ways of looking at fertility... it can also mean financial growth or personal growth. I found the bunny for my alter at Michael's. I removed the stick and set in up on my towel. I just can't get over how cute it is and it was on sale. <grin>
Butterfly - I found these really pretty decorative butterflies at Michael's and they also just happened to be on sale! I removed the pins and laid them flat on my towel.
Kokopelli - the Goddess of fertility.
Eggs - I have a plastic Easter one. This also represents life, birth, or growth
Egg shaped crystals
Other crystals such as amazonite, amethyst, aquamarine, moonstone, moss agate, rose quartz, and blood stone (my birthstone).
5. Perform a ritual - lavender and rosemary represent new beginnings and rebirth, fresh sprigs of rosemary and/or dried lavender buds can be added to your alter, light a candle - green for fertile earth, yellow/gold for the sun, or a variety of pastel colors, then say a prayer over your alter and set an intention for this next stage of life and what you wish to accomplish during this season, and then do some sun salutations to welcome the sun and the return of her life or find some Spring themed yoga practices.
6. Have a picnic (weather permitted) - pack up a delicious lunch full of spring greens, dishes, and a light dessert... like a pineapple upside down cake <grin> Make sure to bring a blanket and head to your local park, beach, or open field. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing, sunscreen, sun hats, and bring plenty of water.
7. Take a nature walk - observe what is going on around you, notice the new growth of plant life and watch for animal activity. Breathe in the fresh new spring air. I hand drew a Spring themed scavenger hunt for my class as a take home activity for them and their families. Head to your local park, nature realm, hiking trails, wooded area, or anywhere with plenty of nature around and see how many items you can find.
And there you have it, my friends, 7 ways for you and/or your family to celebrate the changing of the season and welcoming Spring! If you try out any or all of these ideas I'd love to hear about it in the comments or tag me in the hashtag #YWKSpringEquinox
Also I'd love to hear if you have any other ideas on how to celebrate this wonderful time of year! I love spring time! It is such a wonderful time of year when everything comes back to life after being in hibernation. Break free of those winter blues, shake off the frost, and shed your cocoon.
