The Season of Fall and International Peace Day
There is something very magical about waking up on a Sunday morning and being able to do my morning devotion and then dive into a calming yoga practice. There is something incredibly spiritual about this practice and this routine of yoga and devotion on a cool Sunday morning.
Fall is definitely in the air here in Northeast Ohio. My home is filled with fall cheer and the smells of apples and pumpkins. I have been patiently waiting for its presence. To kick off the fall season my dad and I ventured out to Kidron, OH to explore Lehman's. It was a long time since either of us walked the mangled isles of the enormous building that is Lehman's.
Lehman's used to be a hardware store with some homemade items here and there. You could find cooking wear and wrenches, duck tape and doilies. Now it is more like a large shopping market with numerous rooms of different knick-knacks. I was looking forward to going to explore their kitchen ware section. Their big thing, then as it is now, is to use high tech to sell low tech. They are big on "For Simpler Life". Their products reflect this mission by stocking their shelves with items that satisfying, understanding, comforting, and sustainable.
With a current pandemic going on they are, however, in the same position as every other marketer in the area is facing, low stock. The item I was really looking forward to purchasing was of course out of stock. However the wonderfully, helpful and nice lady behind the counter told me I was able to order it from their warehouse and have it shipped to me for FREE! She wrote down the information for me and had me go to customer service where the woman behind the plexiglass purchased the order from Lehman's website, Lehmans.com. I was very pleased with this transaction and could go home happy knowing the thing I wanted I had found! Even though Lehman's is low on stock they are not low on customers. The isles were filled with people navigating around corners and displays, weaving in and out through people and shopping buggies. Everyone looking for that unique knick-knack to take home with them. True to my form and their style of store I was looking for items of self-sustainability and environmentally friendly.
Outside in front of the auction house old fellows with truck loads of old junk were set up manning their booths and chit-chatting with the shoppers. There were a few hidden treasures and lots of old tools. And I mean lots of old tools, tables and tables full of them.
Although there was no fall activities outside, it was a nice way to kick off the fall season. The leaves are changing colors and the weather has been brilliant; cool in the morning, pleasant in the afternoon, and cool at night. Perfect fall weather!
In other news, I have been preparing for the colder seasons that are coming our way here in Northeast Ohio. I visited the lovely Amish folks in Apple Creek at Backyard Herbs. I stocked up on some supplies that I would be needing for upcoming preparations and syrups for the approaching cold and flu season. This is the one place that I have found that stocks almost everything I may need in one location. It is a long journey, so I wait until I have a big order and make the journey across Ohio in search of supplies. The ladies who operate the shop are friendly and helpful.
Last week I brought home the bottom half of my beautiful hutch and immediately went to work to make this space a place for my home apothecary that I have slowly began putting together. I was running out of the space in my kitchen that I was working with. In came the hutch and it has turned out, in my opinion beautifully. I am happy with what I have created and the home that I have built here. More on all of that later, when I share with you next time about my home apothecary and some life updates.
Favorite Fall Decorations
