You Say You Can't Do Yoga?!
You...
Yes you.
Sitting there on the couch, 4 seasons deep in a Netflix binge.
You say you can't do yoga?!
I say you can.
Part of yoga is just showing up to the mat.
The rest we can work with.
Yoga is a learning process. It is about progress.
It's about dedication, commitment, time...
It's about connecting with yourself, finding out who you really are.
And these things are scary.
But they don't have to be.
Yoga instructors are there to help guide you to a better you.
They want to help you succeed.
They want you to feel relief.
It is difficult to let go of things. These things that we hold on to, cling to.
We have a hard time parting with them.
They hold memories, maybe pain, maybe pleasure, happy/sad. They may no longer be serving us, but yet we refuse to let go.
Yoga is about letting go.
It is about release. It is about finding joy when you can now stretch a little farther into a pose you were struggling with.
Yoga is about balance, unity, devotion.
We are creatures of habit and so it is hard to break those patterns that we find ourselves in.
We cling to them for dear life. We cycle through them day after day.
But if you can dig down deep enough and break the cycle, do something good for yourself; make time to be on a yoga mat.
The benefits of yoga are numerous.
Yoga is proven to help, multiple studies have proven that yoga has many health benefits, mentally and physical. And in a time when suicide ratest are at their highest take time to heal yourself.
I believe everyone has the ability to practice yoga. But first it is about you making the decision to practice yoga. Then comes the being capable. Yoga doesn't have to be hard. Take it back to the basics begin with classes that are slow moving and will move with your pace. Anything in the title with beginners, gentle, relaxation will do. Don't think that everyone in those hot power classes started out there (and if they did it is because they also work out and are physically prepared to take those types of classes, they are the exception). It takes a lot of practice before being ready to move up to those types of classes, especially if you have never done yoga before and you also don't work out. I always say think of any professional athlete, they didn't get there over night. It took them years of dedication, hard work and commitment to get to where they are. Yoga is a lot like that. You don't start out being good, but you work towards it, a little at a time day by day. And soon enough you'll be touching your toes.
I tell my students yoga is about progression. We are building a foundation for your practice. We build on top of skills that are already there and work on those that we don't quite have yet. One brick at a time, just like any well built home, building or business we first need a well laid foundation. Again take it back to the basics. Then it is about accepting the fact that you are probably not going to be that great at it in the beginning. I am here to tell you that is okay. Yoga instructors are there to help guide you. There is always a variation of the yoga pose you can do. Beginners classes are great for getting back to the basics and working on your yoga foundation. And trust me, the last thing you need to be is flexible. If you are willing to move you can work with anything.
Yoga is about a lot more than you think. You will learn a lot about yourself and what you are capable of. You will learn to be more accepting and learn to let go. You will work on breathing. It is more than just the poses. Over time you will begin to see and feel the benefits yoga has on your overall well being. Yoga is a pool full of possibilities. Jump in.

If you are willing to jump into yoga I want to lend you a catching hand.
I am here. I will help lift you up when you are feeling down.
I will lend a listening ear when you need to get something out.
I will help guide you in life and in yoga.
Never feel that you are alone.
It took me awhile to figure out that I wasn't alone.
There are people who care about you.
You just have to be willing to look.
You will find a lot of those people in a yoga studio.
