On Being Kind...

Lately I've been struggling with my disdain for most people. It bothers me that I am having such a hard time liking other people in society; outside of my friends, family, and coworkers and that is already a small group. There has to be a reason I am feeling this way, right?! So I took some time to think about why I am feeling this way... I pondered on some questions... Why am I finding it so hard to like the rest of society? I am a genuinely nice person. I lend a helping hand when I can. I work hard. For the most part I follow the rules. But I will admit I bend them every now and then... So let me elaborate.

The other day I was walking along the street after just getting my coffee and breakfast. I passed a gentleman walking in the opposite direction, I gave him a smile (as I do to every person I pass). He simply just kept on walking with a smug face. Wow, kind of soul crushing. Is this how we want to treat other people who are being kind to us? No wonder I am finding it hard to like most people. And of course this is just one iota of incidents that happen on a daily basis.

But with our country and world going to crap I am having trouble finding any good in it, including people. All we hear about day after day are the horrible events happening in our own country and countries throughout the world. With the number of mass shootings that are happening are on the rise, dramatically. It's almost monthly now that I hear about another mass shooting going on. What is our world coming to? How is anyone supposed to find any good in this? How is anyone supposed to feel safe, anywhere they go? I recently read about a shooting in a yoga studio.... a YOGA STUDIO for God's sake. No where is safe anymore and the media only puts out the horrible events going on in our country and other countries. Don’t they think people want to hear about the good things going on? Horrible and fake news are becoming our norm. I surely do not want this to be my norm or the norm for anyone else. I want to hear about the good things happening in the world. It may even make me more interested in the news.

Then on the other hand we have our government which is working hard to cut out the hard working people and opting to take care of those who are already wealthy. Our own President can't even manage his own Twitter account without weekly saying something stupid or far fetched that leaves not only Americans but the rest of the world scratching our heads. This is a man who tells people it is okay to grab a woman by the pussy and get away with it. This is our leader? We are supposed to listen to this man? We are supposed to get reassurance from him? No wonder America is a laughing stock to the rest of the world. No wonder people don’t think about the consequences of their actions anymore. They just do whatever they want. The consequences will come later, if at all. Now-a-days it seems people who have been wronged are too afraid to say anything, because who knows the wrong doer may pull out a gun and shoot them or sue them or hit them. And this is somehow becoming the norm. But as of lately I have been looking at the world in a new light. We are all lost souls with no guidance from a valid source.

So where do we look for guidance on how to be decent human beings? On how to be kind to others? Yoga. Meditation. Spiritual and Life coaches. Religious leaders. The leaders in these industries. These people want to help others become their best selves, to live their best lives. These are the people who need to be running our country. These are the people who will lead our country toward a more positive light. These are the people who will teach our present and future generations to be kind, to take care of yourself and others, to lend a helping hand. To sow the seeds of good deeds and reap the benefits of living a loving, positive life.

We spiritually enlightened, yogic, meditating believers need to step in to spread our light all over the place… not only on social media where the amount of likes we get is now a valid way for us to feel like we’ve accomplished something. But big picture. Like Julie Oliver, who is a yoga teacher among other things running for a seat in the US House of Representatives in Texas’s 25th District. More people like her are who we need running this country.

However you do not need to run for the US House of Representatives. A simple smile to a stranger on the street, a helping hand to someone struggling to reach or find something at the grocery store, a hug to a friend or coworker who may need one. Buying someone a cup of coffee or treating someone to lunch. Being kind doesn't have to be some big to-do. A simple kind act will go a long way. Maybe not right away or all at once but over time being kind to others will not only make them feel better but will bless you. You will live a happier more satisfied life. Sowing seeds will enrich your life.

Remember to be kind even when it may seem difficult. Remember to sow your seeds. Remember to live your best life. Be Kind. Be Love. Spread Peace.

Namaste.
